Our Legacy

1928

Lluís Casamitjana Selvas

founded a construction company that went on to operate for three decades, primarily within the metropolitan region of Barcelona.
1950

Josep Casamitjana Puiggrós

not only continued his father Lluís' construction company but also became a developer, which further expanded the family business.
1980

Lluís Casamitjana Serraclara

Son of Josep and grandson of Lluís, transformed the company when he founded Espais Promocions Immobiliaries (“Spaces Real Estate Developments”).Anna Pineda did the rebranding and spearheaded its expansion across Spain.
1990

The company established joint ventures with prominent Spanish banks, including Banc Sabadell, Banesto (now part of Banco Santander), Catalunya Bank (now part of the BBVA Group), Caixa Sabadell and Caixa Manresa (now part of Banco Santander).
2000

Diagonal Mar

Espais led the development of several landmark projects in Barcelona, including the four central residential blocks of Diagonal Mar near the beach, featuring 969 avant-garde residences, alongside the 4-star Vincci Maritimo and Princess hotels, comprising a total of 508 rooms. Additionally, the company forged strategic joint ventures with global investors such as Forum Partners (London), PGGM Pension Fund (Netherlands) and Reno de Medici (Italy).
2005-2006

The Heart of Barcelona

The company created entirely new hotel chain with the development of the 5-star Hotel Alma in the heart of Barcelona’s Eixample, as well as other hotels in Spain and Germany, marking a milestone in Espai’s international expansion as it continued to forge strategic joint ventures with global funds.
2011

Actual Capital Advisors

Actual Capital Advisors was founded by the Espais management team.
2016

New International Projects

Sergi Casamitjana Pineda, great-grandson of the company’s founder, joined Actual’s expansion team in New York and led the charge on new international projects.
2020

The New Legacy

Sergi became a partner at Actual and continued to grow the company worldwide as it transitioned further into the investment space as well as to manage the firm’s development funds, without the traditional middlemen.
2023

Company Expansion

Actual commenced its foray into Latin America by establishing an office in Lima, Peru.
